From @kikinis: After removing the slicer.ini, Slicer starts
I looked at this on Ron's computer and we couldn't reproduce it with the latest build, but this doesn't mean it's fixed, just evidence that there is memory corruption that depends on the state of the system.
It might be good to support disabling extensions auto-update from the command line.
For completeness, I had similar experience, see report/discussion here: https://discourse.slicer.org/t/nightly-slicer-crashes-trying-to-open-extension-manager/4005
Worth noting that since commit r26960 (ENH: Speedup app startup time by lazily instantiating extension dialog), the extension dialog is lazily instantiated. This also means that
(1) no extension will be installed at startup. Indeed, the signal
(2) the function
In the following topic, I added the function
I tested this function:
but I was unable to re-create the crash.
I am now wondering if this could be related to some proxy setting specific to the network ...
As far as I remember, the crashes always happened on Partners network (for Ron and Andrey). Disabling internet connection fixed the crash.
It is interesting to note that there are more than 70 threads (maybe many more, but the stack trace is truncated), most of them QNetworkAccessManager threads. Were you able to reproduce this? Maybe the issue is on network connections where the response is delayed (or never arrives)?
In fact the thread that crashed is the 129th, may be the system probably run out of file descriptor ... but I wasn't able to reproduce this
